Tree Towels
Tree Towels contrasts the current cultural value of convenience and the tradition of conservation. To recognize the level of forest destruction that is involved in the manufacture of paper towels, I used two-page spreads juxtaposing antique tea towels and paper towels adding hand embroidered and rubber stamped text and photos for emphasis. The hand images are a repeated reminder that the decisions we make and future of forests rest in the readers' hands.
Materials: The book block is constructed of Pelon interfacing covered by antique cotton tea towels. Paper towels collected from various rest rooms and stamped with text as well as digital photos and hand embroidery were added to the pages. The book is button bound.
