Oh Christmas Tree
Initially, Oh Christmas Tree was conceived as a lament for the short life of our family Christmas tree, but after doing some research on Christmas trees, I was surprised to discover the many economic and environmental values of the “live Christmas tree industry” as well as the spiritual value of the tree and its place in history. With this understanding, I realized my lament should really be a tribute to my Christmas tree. My initial “shroud” concept evolved into a functional “tree skirt” and poem with a collection of fact-based ornaments to adorn Christmas trees in years to come and to celebrate the life of all beloved Christmas trees.
Materials: The (functional) tree skirt "book" is made of cotton organdy folded, painted, stamped, and beaded, with additional cotton fabric attached with fabric adhesive. Ornaments are ink jet printed on cotton fabric and embellished with beads, thread, and ribbon. The poem is original. The box is binder's board covered with book cloth and closed with a ribbon. Pine cones are included for fun or planting.
